Gina Comparetto Flynn Shares Some Moments as a Newlywed and More

Spread the love

14672664_1385125788173020_1084807983_oIt was lovely to chat with Gina Flynn shortly after she and Billy Flynn [Days of Our Lives] returned from their honeymoon.  Gina was very sweet and forthcoming with her answers, and is clearly a happy newlywed.  After recently seeing Gina and Billy in New York city, it was evident how deeply they love each other.  It was a privilege to have had the opportunity to spend time with both of them, and be able to arrange to interview Gina so soon after.

Carolyn Topol Talk:  The first thing I want to say, Gina, is congratulations on your marriage!

Gina Flynn:  Thank you so much.

CTT:  We all had the opportunity to see the beautiful pictures posted of the wedding.  The two of you look so happy.

GF:  It was a really special day.

CTT:  I spoke with you, very vaguely of course, about your dress, before the wedding. Did you pick it out by yourself or did you go with anyone in particular?

14699425_1385159064836359_576979817_oGF:  Well, it was funny actually. I had gone maybe two or three times with my closest family members — my mom, my sister, my aunt, and a few of the bridesmaids. I just had no luck. I wasn’t able to really find anything. They were all beautiful dresses but nothing that really wowed me. Then my friend, Isadora — I’ve known her for years — suggested we try this place that I’d been kind of looking at online. It was really close to me, so the two of us just went, and that’s when I ended up finding it.

CTT:  So you just spontaneously went to a local boutique?  Is the dress by any special designer that we might know?

GF:  It’s a beautiful boutique, called The Glamour Closet. They have a bunch of different designers. He’s a Japanese designer, Junko Yoshioka, [designer of Gina’s wedding gown]. He makes really beautiful and unique gowns. I was just so taken by it as soon as I put it on.

CTT:  It was a beautiful gown. Did you get to have your ah-ha moment with your friend?

GF:  I did, yeah! It was definitely what I was hoping to feel when trying on a wedding dress. I was sort of beginning to think, “Am I missing a bride gene or something?” [Laughs] I have all these beautiful dresses, and I tried them all on. I liked them but I wasn’t [feeling] like I have to get married in this. So it was really refreshing and exciting when I found that dress.

CTT:  I’m so happy for you!

GF:  Thanks.

CTT:  The next morning, after your beautiful wedding and reception, when you woke up and realized you were married, what was the first thought that came to mind?

14677851_1385125794839686_495944442_oGF:  I think it was just… we both sort of looked at each other and were still in this cloud-nine state where we were just so happy. The whole day and the whole experience really exceeded our expectations! We were so happy to look over to each other, both kind of knowing without even saying it how perfect it all was, and that we now could call each other husband and wife. It was just so amazing! This is something we had been planning and talking about for over a year. It was really great to get to that day, and be there together, and have that experience.

CTT:  How long before the wedding had you selected the location for your honeymoon?

GF:  Our honeymoon was very last-minute. We booked it, gosh I’d say, just a couple of weeks before the wedding.

CTT:  Had you planned to meet Rob [Wilson] and his girlfriend?

GF:  No! Completely by accident. [Laughs] We didn’t find out until the wedding night that they were going to be there the same time we were going to be there. It was really funny how it happened. We were talking about how we had booked a last minute honeymoon. And Rob [said], “Did you say you’re going to Cabo? Me and Janelle are going to be in Cabo for her 30th.” It was such a pleasant surprise. We were glad we could see them while we were there.

CTT:  Were you at the same resort or different resorts?

GF:  Different resorts. Rob even made a joke about it saying, “I don’t want to be crashing your honeymoon.” And we were like, “Oh no, we’ll get together one night for dinner.” So we had a beautiful dinner celebrating two very big events for the week.

CTT:  That explains a lot. I think people were wondering if that had been planned.

GF:  [Laughs] I know, right, especially since they play such archenemies on the show. Are they that close that he’s coming on the honeymoon with them? [All laugh] It was a funny little coincidence.

CTT:  Now, going a few days ahead, how was it returning to real life and the real world after the honeymoon?

14689775_1385125821506350_951037553_oGF:  We felt just really relaxed. We were sort of still on that high. We were happy to be home, not that anything really felt super different, because we’ve always loved each other and we lived together, so not a lot was different. I think it was kind of hard the first day to get back to reality. We had to go back to work and we had to get back into our daily grind.

CTT:  Did your cats miss you?

GF:  They sure did. They definitely missed us. They were very happy we were home. We had a couple of good friends watching them while we were gone so they were well taken care of. We got the cold shoulder from one of them for about the first 12 hours and then he wouldn’t leave our side. He definitely let us know he didn’t appreciate being left. A dog would be super excited to see you, running up to you with his tail wagging and a cat is looks at you like, “I want you to know what you did.” [All laughing]

CTT:  Going forward what is your plan right now? Do you have anything on the horizon that we can look forward to seeing you in or is coming up soon?

GF:  Yes, I was in a horror film called, Applecart [imdb.com/title/tt5719076/]. That should be coming out this coming year. I’m not really sure exactly when. They’re still working in post production. I’m excited about that and excited about seeing it because I haven’t seen any footage yet. It’ll be nice to finally see.

CTT:  Let us know when we might be able to see it and if it’ll be in theaters or at festivals.

GF:  Yes, I will.

CTT:  Is there anything you’re working on right now?

GF:  I’ve had a couple of auditions in the last couple of weeks, but it’s been hard to be working on too much because of all the time that went into the wedding planning. I think it’s going to pick up in the next month, with the holidays approaching, and lots more auditions. I’m hoping to get in for some good projects before it slows down in December.

CTT:  I wish you lots and lots of luck. We’d love to see you on screen. Your appearance on Days was great fun and had a big impact.

GF:  Thank you.

CTT:  How did that role come about?

GF:  I was lucky enough to get to audition for Days probably about five years ago. It was the one and only time I had auditioned for Days. Marnie, the casting director, was very complementary and said really nice things about my work. I was always hoping to have another chance to get back in. My manager called me and said, “I submitted you for this small part,” and then asked if I wanted to audition. I said, “Yes, of course.” I auditioned and was lucky enough to book the role of Lisa.

CTT:  Has Billy ever watch that scene?

GF:  Not at all.

CTT:  Did you watch it when it aired?

GF:  I did watch it.

CTT:  But he hasn’t watched and isn’t planning to?

GF:  No. He hasn’t seen it, and he doesn’t plan on seeing it. [Laughs] He would be happy to watch any other episodes, or anything else I do in the future, but just not that one.

CTT:  I find that very endearing.

GF:  I did too. I wasn’t offended at all; I completely understood.

CTT:  Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. You and Billy have a lot of fans. They were very happy to share your joy as all the pictures of your wedding were being posted.

GF:  That’s nice to hear.
