One of the most beautiful reunions and proposals on General Hospital, in a very long time, was the moment Julian Jerome (Willian deVry) and Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) resumed their romance and became engaged.  I remember smiling broadly when Julian asked permission from Alexis’s daughters to ask her to marry him.

The moment of the proposal was one of the most romantic and tender I’ve seen on a soap in a very long time.  While young love is beautiful and passionate, none of the younger couples on GH exude the same level of romance and heat found between Julian and Alexis.

It would seem the love, honesty, and sacrifices made by both Alexis and Julian, to work their way back to each other, is all blowing up before our eyes.  Alexis knows all about Julian’s return to the mob world and his hit on the witness who saw Carlos Rivera (Jeffrey Vincent Parise) kill Duke Lavery (Ian Buchanan), on Julian’s order, as well as committing Carlos’s murder.

Alexis, having decided to turn Julian in, is caught in the act of trying to retrieve the evidence.  Giving Julian an ultimatum, Julian chooses destroying the evidence over their love.  However, several questions remain unanswered.  Will Alexis be able to forgive Julian, despite his gargantuan betrayal?  Will Alexis’s career be spared should the truth of her knowledge be revealed?  Now that Julian has destroyed the evidence, will Alexis still attempt to bring Julian to justice?  In addition, could Alexis possibly get past Julian’s selection of murder weapons — the knife that killed her mother to kill Carlos?

As long as Julian was not in the mob, Alexis was able to give her complete and “unconditional” love to him.  Now that there is no longer any question Julian is all in, can Alexis remain in the same home as her new husband?

Sam (Kelly Monaco), Alexis’s oldest daughter, saw the truth of her father’s activities even before her mother could allow her thoughts to venture there.  While Sam clearly loves both her parents, she appears to expect her parents’ marriage is destined for disaster.

I adored Julian and Alexis together (#Julexis).  The nature of their relationship at this juncture seems to illustrate a complete breakdown in all that made them a good couple.  Will Alexis be able to love Julian the way she did before knowing the truth of his mob activities — I can’t imagine she can.  It’s rare that I support a couple so ardently and then feel there must be a complete turn around to retain character integrity.  I actually do hope Alexis leaves Julian due to all his betrayals.

If there could be any way for Julian to get out of the mob completely I would cheer for him, but I don’t expect that’s in the cards.  My sense is this marriage is heading for divorce before the signatures on their license have completely dried.
