I was recently reminded of all the talented film actors who started their careers on daytime television soap operas.  It took me less than five minutes to come up with six performers who are now far better known for their movies than their soap roles.

Brad Pitt had a recurring role as Chris on Another World.

Sarah Michelle Gellar took on the daunting role of Kendall Hart, Erica Kane’s daughter on All My Children.

Demi Moore portrayed Jackie Templeton on General Hospital.  She was partnered with the most well-known man in Port Charles, Luke Spencer, played by Anthony Geary.

Meg Ryan was well known as Betsy Stewart Andropolous on As the World Turns.  She was always searching for love and continued to star in some of the best romantic comedies on the big screen.

Julianne Moore demonstrated her extreme talent by playing the good twin and evil twin roles of Frannie and Sabrina Hughes on As the World Turns.

Ryan Phillippe took a big step in his early career by taking on the role of Billy Douglas, the first gay teen on a daytime soap opera, on One Life to Live.

It’s clear that daytime soap operas cast outstanding talents, many of whom go on to very different types of screen genres.
