Paul Hornsby [Richard Burgi], on General Hospital, went from suspicious character with probable crime family connections, to sympathetic father who killed his daughter’s rapist, to delusional serial killer! Talk about a huge character arc!
While I could find my way to “forgiving” Paul for shooting Sonny Corinthos [Maurice Benard] and killing Kyle Sloane [Grayson McCouch], it’s certainly hard to find my way to excuse him for killing helpless people in the name of salvation for his catatonic daughter, Susan.
My heart goes out to Paul’s son, Dillon Quartermaine [Robert Palmer Watkins], who now has the image of his father on the verge of murdering his mother, Tracy Quartermaine [Jane Elliot], permanently emblazoned in his mind. He is now also carrying the guilt of knowing his own parent mercilessly killed, and attempted to kill, many helpless people, including those dear to his heart.
We witnessed Paul’s break down. He’s completely deluded, thinking that somehow his murderous rampage would bring Susan back from within herself. We now have witnessed Dillon falling apart, burdened with the knowledge that the man he allowed back into his life and heart could carry out the most deplorable crimes.
Is there any redemption for Dillon’s father, a man so desperate to bring his daughter back to reality? In addition, now that we know Paul will be leaving Port Charles, can Dillon find a way to live with the knowledge of his father’s crimes and somehow find inner peace again? As a whole, what do you think about the finale to the serial killer storyline?
Let’s Talk!!!
